Sending money

You can send money to another member, or to someone who hasn't joined Clear yet. The Send page holds your contacts, your Clear code and the way to scan one.

Who you can send to

A contact Clear knows an account for is paid directly. For a member it is a transfer inside the network: there's no fee, it arrives straight away, and it comes out of Ready to allocate.

A contact with only a phone number or email gets a claim link. The money is locked in an escrow, and they get a text or an email with a link to claim it. While it waits:

  • it is held for them alone, and nobody can spend it
  • the Send page shows a reminder strip for the oldest send still waiting, with how many days it has left before it expires
  • after the link expires it can't be claimed, and the escrow will only pay it back to you

Your contacts are in Settings → Contacts. A contact without a Clear account shows Invite beside it.

Sending asks for Face ID when payment protection is on. See Getting started.

Your Clear code

Your Clear code, on the Send page and full screen at Your code, says who you are. It doesn't carry an amount. At a shop counter, the shop enters the amount and you approve it on your phone — see Paying at a shop.

Claiming money someone sent you

If someone sent you money with a link:

  • 1.
Open the link. It shows the amount and that it's ready to claim.
  • 2.
Sign in, or connect a wallet. You can create a Clear account here.
  • 3.
Enter the six-digit code sent to the phone number or email the money was sent to. This proves the link reached the right person.
  • 4.
    Choose how to receive it:
  • Debit card — instant where your card is eligible; if it isn't, you can switch to a bank payout
  • Bank account — an ACH transfer
  • Crypto wallet — a connected wallet, your Clear wallet, or an address you paste
  • 5.
The page confirms when it's done, with a reference.

Joining Clear to claim is free, and the full amount lands in your account.

A link that has expired can't be claimed. If that happens, ask the sender to send it again.

Disputing a send

If something went wrong with money sent between you and another member, you can raise a dispute. A send that hasn't been claimed yet is held while the dispute is open. See Disputes.
